Reverend James L. Gill, Jr., D.D.
The Reverend Dr. James L. Gill’s public ministry has crossed denominational and racial lines as he has traveled extensively throughout the East Coast preaching, teaching and conducting seminars and revivals. He has hosted the ‘Faith For Today’ Radio Program and Public Access Television Ministry Broadcast during the 1980’s. Although being a native of Roanoke, Virginia and a current resident of Wilbraham, Massachusetts and a former resident of Springfield, Massachusetts, Reverend Gill affectionately calls Hartford, Connecticut home. He has 38 years of experience in the Pastoral Ministry and in various levels of Human Service and Law Enforcement Administration.
In addition to serving as Founder and Senior Pastor of Harvest Fellowship Church, Inc. at Springfield, Massachusetts, Reverend Gill is a retired Assistant Deputy Superintendent of the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department and Correctional Center in Ludlow, Massachusetts and also served as Commander of the Hostage Negotiation Team and a Notary Public. In addition to this, Reverend Gill also serves as a Chaplain for the Police Department in the City of Springfield, Massachusetts, an Adjunct Instructor at the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Training Academy at Agawam, and the Western Massachusetts County Correctional Officers Academy at Westover Air Force Base. Reverend Gill is board certified to teach curriculum for law enforcement officers in Hostage Negotiation, Hostage Survival, Stress Management, Human Relations and Interpersonal Crisis Intervention.
Reverend Gill holds a Master of Science Degree with honors in Criminal Justice Administration from Westfield State College at Westfield, Massachusetts, a Bachelor of Theology and a Bachelor of Divinity Degree from the J. W. Teamer School of Religion at Charlotte, North Carolina. In May 1991, Reverend Gill received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from the Teamer School. He also holds a certification as a Behavioral Analyst Consultant from The Institute of Motivational Living and a License as a Christian Counselor by the National Christian Counselors Association of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He has also been inducted into the Alpha Phi Sigma National Criminal Justice Honor Society. After volunteering his time in service to the American Lung Association’s Smoking and Health Committee, N.A.A.C.P. of Springfield, MA, the Open Pantry Program for the Homeless, Junior Achievement Consultant to Springfield Public Schools and the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice, Reverend Gill enjoys time with his wife Betty, their children and grand-children, reading contemporary theology, motivational and self-help authors, playing Basketball and taking long walks.
